Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, sent a message of greetings to the participants in the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia

Participants in the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church

Your Holiness,

Esteemed participants in the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church,

Please accept my greetings with the opening of the Bishops’ Council – the supreme governing body of the Russian Orthodox Church that preserves an ancient tradition of settling major issues of spiritual life in a conciliar way.

The Bishops’ Council held in 2017 is of particular importance since it marks the centenary of restoration of the Patriarchate.

The Council sets an example of ecclesiastical unity and commitment to the ideals of peace and accord, love and harmony, mercy and compassion. At all times, these values have helped promote the harmonious coexistence of civilizations, cultures and religions, opening the door to the joint active work for the benefit of society.

The Orthodox Christianity plays an important part in the history of the sovereign Republic of Kazakhstan, making its considerable contribution to the strengthening of inter-confessional peace and inter-ethnic accord in society.

I believe that the decisions taken by the archpastors of the Russian Orthodox Church will help promote peace and civil accord and maintain good relations with states and peoples, bound up by the common history and culture.

I wish to the participants in the Bishops’ Council good health and spiritual strength in fostering the lofty values!

Nursultan Nazarbayev
