On 22 July 2013, Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with the delegation of the Orthodox Church in America headed by His Beatitude Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington and Metropolitan of All America and Canada. The delegation arrived in Moscow to take part in the celebration of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly greeted His Beatitude Tikhon who is paying his first visit to Russia. The Primate of the Orthodox Church in America told the DECR chairman about the beginning of his visit, the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr in-the-Fields – the Moscow Metochion of the Orthodox Church in America, and about his visit to Moscow monasteries and convents.

Discussed was a wide range of problems pertaining to the situation of Orthodox in North America and the salutary mission of the Orthodox Church on the continent.

Taking part in the meeting were Bishop Alexander of Toledo, chairman of the Department for External Relations and Inter-Church Relations of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA); Bishop Kliment of Krasnoslobodsk and Temnikov; archimandrite Alexander (Pihach), representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; archpriest John Jillions, OCA chancellor; archpriest Georgy Roschin, representative of the World Russian People’s Council to the UN and a cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York:  deacon Jesse Isaac, a cleric of the Archdiocese of Canada; and Mr. Dmitry Petrovsky, a DECR staff member.
