His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia gave his comments to the mass media representatives regarding the decision of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to recognize the schismatics in Ukraine, the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports with reference to Romfea agency.

The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church said that today our Church experiences great temptation which has befallen our first hierarch the Ecumenical Patriarch to take decision which can bring catastrophic consequences to the Church to recognize the schismatic church and grant it an autocephaly that he has no right to do.

His Holiness noted that there had been no precedents and added that he believes that all Churches will say that this decision is catastrophic so that the most catastrophic church schism can be avoided. “We hope that the Lord will save us from this temptation,” Patriarch Irinej of Serbia underscored.
