On September 23, 2019, the Second International Conference of New Testament researchers has begun its work on ‘The Gospel of Mark: Historical and Theological Context’ at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies (CMI).

M. Seleznev, associate professor at the CMI Chair of Bible Studies, greeted the participants on behalf of the CMI rector Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. His welcoming speech was followed by the paper read by Prof John Collins, Yale Divinity School, on the 13th Chapter of the Gospel of Mark in the Context of Jewish Eschatology.

The conference will last until September 26. Leading Bible researchers from Russia, the USA, and European countries will discuss basic issues of the historical and theological study of the Gospel of Mark. In conclusion of the forum, a paper will be read by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR) and the CMI rector.

The conference is conducted by the CMI in cooperation with the Eastern European Liaison Committee (EELC) of the Society of New Testament Studies (SNTS) and with the support of Kirche in Not and Education and Mission foundations.
