Liturgy celebrated at Damask Representation of Russian Orthodox Church
Sunday, November 5, 2017 – The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the church of the Damask representation of the Russian Orthodox Church. It was presided over by Hegumen Arseniy (Sokolov), Representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
Praying in the church of Holy Martyr Ignatius of Antioch were the faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church residing in the Syrian capital city and outside it, including in Aleppo, Tarsus and other cities in the country. Participating in the service were also A. Frolov, acting representative of Rossotrudnichesnvo, who read the beginning of the Books of the Apostles, V. Zaichikov, director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Beirut, Lebanon, and staff members of the Russian Federation embassy in Syria.
In the evening of the same day, Father Arseniy visited the Russian diplomatic mission in Damascus to meet with Russian ambassador to Syria A. Kinschak. They discussed prospects for the return of the Representation of the Patriarch of Moscow to the Patriarch of Antioch from Beirut to Damascus.
The day before, November 4, Father Arseniy attended a conference of Russian compatriots residing in Syria. The event, which took place in Damascus, gathered together, for the first time after so many years, heads and representatives of Russian cultural and public associations from Syrian liberated cities and provinces, the Representation site reports.
