On 17 April 2012, an international forum at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University began to consider the notion of beauty from the humanities’ position. The conference, organized by St. Tikhon’s University together with the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, has gathered Russian, Spanish, Italian and Swiss art critic, culturologists, theologians, philosophers, and philologists.

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations and Rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Church Postgraduate and Doctoral Scholl, head the Organizing Committee.

Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyev, rector of St., Tikhon’s University, welcomed the participants and reminded them of Dostoyevsky’s words “the beauty will save the world” and expressed his hope for the development of cooperation with the University of the Sacred Heart in future.

Metropolitan Hilarion presented a report on “Theology of the Beauty.”

On the first day of the conference, taking place were a plenary session and sections on “Art and Music” and “Creative Work and Philosophy.”

The conference will continue its work till April 19.
