On 18 February 2020, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with His Holiness Irenaeus, Patriarch of Serbia, at the Patriarchate of Serbia in Belgrade. They were joined in their talk by hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church including Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb and Ljubljana, as well as members of the Holy Synod, Bishops Irenej of Bac, Jovan of Sumadija and David of Krusevac.

The DECR chairman conveyed to the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church warm greetings and best wishes from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. During the talk, which took place in an atmosphere of fraternal love and mutual understanding, the sides discussed in detail the church situation in Ukraine and Montenegro and the crisis in the inter-Orthodox relations, underscoring a special importance of a conciliar way of overcoming schisms and solving pressing problems in relations between Local Orthodox Churches, as well as a number of other matters of mutual concern.

The DECR chairman presented Patriarch Irenaeus with a pectoral icon, a gift from Patriarch Kirill, and the hierarchs who took part in the meeting with tokens of the meeting.
