On 16 February 2020, after the Divine Liturgy at the Orthodox Theological Seminary of St. Nicholas of Ugresh, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, H. E. Toyohisa Kozuki. The head of the Japanese diplomatic mission and his wife came to the seminary for the annual convocation and an international conference on church history under the theme “Spiritual Heritage of St. Nicholas of Japan Equal-to-the-Apostles”.

Participating in the meeting were also the first secretary of the Japanese embassy in Russia Mr. Zumpey Tsuruta, the rector of the seminary Hegumen Ioann (Rubin) and D. I. Petrovksy, DECR.

They discussed practical matters of cooperation, in particular, preparations for a visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and Russia to Japan to take place in autumn 2020.

H. E. Toyohisa Kozuki conveyed gratitude from Emperor Naruhito to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for his congratulatory message on the occasion of His Majesty’s ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne.
