Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, congratulated His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Poland, on the commemoration day of his heavenly patron, St. Sava of Serbia. The text is given below.

Your Beatitude:

I wholeheartedly greet you with the commemoration day of St. Sava, whose name you have been given as you have embarked on monastic path.

Following in the footsteps of your heavenly patron, you have always tried by word and by example of your own life to confirm your flock in the Orthodox faith and educate them in the spirit of fraternal unity so that the believers who were growing in love ‘were of one heart and soul’ (Acts 4:32).

Prayerful intercession of St. Sava invisibly supports you in bearing a heavy cross of the primatial ministry and in your fatherly care for the well-being of the Holy Polish Orthodox Church. Your ministering to the needs of bishops, clerics, monks, nuns and lay persons gives good example to the young generation of pastors and ‘overflows with many thanksgivings to God’ (2 Cor 9:12).

I ask Your Beatitude to accept my most sincere wishes of peace, gracious strengthening of your health and bountiful God’s aid in your primatial labours.

With reverential love in the Lord,

+ Hilarion
