On 16th January 2020, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with the newly appointed head of the Mission of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta to the Russian Federation, Aimone of Savoy-Aosta.

They were joined in the meeting by Ms Giovanna Parravicini, counsel of the Order of Malta’s Mission, and Archpriest Sergy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for far abroad countries.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed the diplomat to the Synodal institution responsible for international ties of the Russian Church.

The participants in the meeting noted a high level of cooperation between the Order and the Russian Church.

Mr. Aosta told the DECR chairman about the activities of the Order of Malta in Russia, in particular, about its charity projects in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The participants in the meeting also discussed joint exhibition projects, as well as prospects of cooperation in rendering aid to the Syrian children affected by the war.

To conclude the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented the diplomat with a memorable gift.
