On 28 November 2019, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest Péter Cardinal Erdő at the parish house of the Cathedral of the Dormition in Budapest.

Discussed at the meeting held in a warm cordial atmosphere was a wide range of issues, for instance, work with the youth, mission, education and social ministry of Christian Churches in the modern world.

Metropolitan Hilarion shared his impressions of the 2nd International Conference on Christian Persecution being held in Budapest and told the Primate of Hungary about church life in Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the Russian Orthodox Church’s canonical responsibility.

DECR chairman presented Cardinal Erdő with his book “Catechism’ in the Hungarian language.

After the talk, Metropolitan Hilarion and Cardinal Erdő proceeded to the Cathedral of the Dormition. Rev. Svyatoslav Bulakh, secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Diocese of Hungary, briefed the guests on the restoration work funded by Hungary.
