On 6th November 2019, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, the Interreligious Working Group for Humanitarian Aid to Population of Syria of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of Russia held its ninth session in the DECR’s Great Hall.

Taking part in the meeting were Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, head of the group; Salih-Hazrat Ibragimov, Imam-muhtasib of the Nizhnekamsk district, Tatarstan; Bishop Konstantin Bendas, first deputy of the Presiding Bishop and chancellor of the Russian Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith (Pentecostal); Bishop Dmitry Shatrov of the Russian Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith (Pentecostal); Mr. Hassan Nasralla, chairman of the Arab Diaspora Regional Non-Governmental Organization; Hieromonk Yermogen (Korchukov), oikonomos of the Zaikonospassky Stavropegic Monastery in Moscow and executive director of the Interreligious Foundation for Joint Humanitarian Projects; Imam M. Mirsayapov, head of the International Department of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia; and Mr. A.A. Abdusalomov, deputy head of the International Department of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia.

The participants in the meeting summarized the results of the implementation of the restoration project for the general education school in Barzeh district in Damascus, which was officially opened on 23rd September 2019. The funds for the restoration works had been raised by the Interreligious Working Group. During the session, further prospects of developing joint humanitarian initiatives were outlined.
