On October 4, 2019, the Presidential Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations held a regular meeting chaired by the head of the Presidential Administration A. Vaino.

The meeting was attended by religious leaders, experts, representatives of federal executive bodies and non-governmental organizations. The Russian Orthodox Church was represented by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna; Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations; and B. Legoida, head of the synodal department for the Church’s relations with society and mass media.

The meeting discussed the Council’s international work. Reports were made by Metropolitan Hilarion and A. Rudenko, deputy minister of foreign affairs.

A great value was given to the work of the Council’s working group for humanitarian aid to the Syrian population. On September 23, 2019, a school restored on the funds raised by believers in Russia was opened in Damascus.

The meeting also considered the cooperation of religious organizations with the Russian MFA for defending traditional religious and moral values, rights of believers in the Middle East, Ukraine and other regions of the world and conduct of major international interreligious forums under the aegis of the Council.

The meeting also dealt with the implementation of decisions adopted by the Council’s previous meeting.
