June 26, 2019 – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), who is in Greece with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, visited the office of the Holy Synod of the Greece Orthodox Church at Petraki Monastery in Athens.

In a break between the sessions of the Holy Synod, the DECR chairman was received by the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Hieronymus, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. During their talk, they dealt with issues concerning the bilateral relations between the Russian and Greek Orthodox Churches.

They were joined in their talk by Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, Metropolitan David of Grevena; Archimandrite Ignatios (Sotiriadis), the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church secretary for inter-Orthodox relations; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations, and Hieromonk Gregory (Sokolov), DECR secretariat for inter-Orthodox relations.

In memory of the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented His Beatitude Hieronymus with an icon of St. Seraphim of Sarov.

After the talk, which was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, Metropolitan Hilarion briefly greeted all the members of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church.
