Divine Liturgy celebrated outside the cathedral captured by schismatics in Vinnitsa
On May 14, 2019, the commemoration day of the Holy Martyr Macarius, Metropolitan of Kiev, Archbishop Varsonofy of Vinnitsa and Bar, assisted by the diocesan clergy, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the grave of Metropolitan Makary (Svistun), who was administrator of the diocese of Vinnitsa in the period from 1992-2007. The archpastor was buried next to the Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration, which is now captured by the OCU supporters.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church department for information and education has reported with reference to the diocesan press service that for fifteen years the monastics and lay people of the diocese of Vinnitsa used to assembly in the cathedral to congratulate Metropolitan Makary on his name day, and since he passed away in 2017, the faithful have honoured his memory by the requiem service at his grave. “Metropolitan Makary is a hierarch respected by the people and loved by the clergy”, they say in the diocese.
This year, according to the established tradition, the clergy and laity of the canonical Ukrainian Church’s diocese of Vinnitsa celebrated the Liturgy and requiem service at the archpastor’s grave on his name day.
