The solemn divine service timed for the commemoration day of St. George was presided over by His Beatitude Theodoros, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa. His Beatitude was assisted by Metropolitan Nikodim of Memphis, Metropolitan Niphon of Pelusia, Bishop Theodore of Babylon; Rev. Victor Kulaga, representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Alexandria, and Cairo clergy.
In his primatial homily after vespers, His Beatitude asked the Russian Orthodox Church representative to convey deep appreciation and gratitude to Patriarch Kirill for his support for and attention to the life of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. He noted that the St. George monastery itself used to revive many times in its history thanks to the help from the Russian Church. He also stated that the relations between the two Churches developed in close contacts and in a spirit of fraternal love.
Patriarch Theodoros stressed that he supported canonical Orthodoxy in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and made efforts for settling the church situation in Ukraine as soon as possible and for achieving the Eucharistic unity in the Orthodox Church.
