On 15 November 2018, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, arrived in Cairo on a working visit.

The same day Metropolitan Hilarion visited the Patriarchate of Alexandria. In the Church of St. Nicholas the DECR chairman venerated the relics of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew. At the Patriarchal residence Metropolitan Hilarion was received by His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa. The participants in the meeting discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the inter-church relations.

Taking part in the meeting were also Metropolitan Nikodemos of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations; and Rev. Anatoly Churyakov, DECR staff member.
