Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church speaks at the conference of compatriots living in Syria

On 9 November 2018, a conference of representatives of the organizations of compatriots living in Syria took place in Damascus.

Hegumen Arseniy (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, greeted the participants and told them about the history and the present-day life of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus. In conclusion he wished successful and fruitful work to the representatives of the organizations of compatriots from Damascus, Aleppo, Holms, Latakia, Tartus and Suwayda.

Participants in the conference expressed hope for peace in Syria and for an early opening of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, the work of which was suspended at the beginning of the war.
