On September 5, 2018, the 40th anniversary of the demise of Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov) of Leningrad and Novgorod, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Trinity Cathedral of the St. Alexander Nevsky Laura of the Holy Trinity.

His Holiness was assisted by a great assembly of hierarchs, bishops, clergy including rectors of churches of the Metropolis of St. Petersburg and other dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Present at the service were the Presidential Envoy to the North-West Federal Region A. Beglov, St. Petersburg Governor G. Poltavchenko, Speaker of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly V. Makarov; as well as Archbishop Tapio Luoma of Turku and All Finland, head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, and a delegation of his Church.

The Soyuz TV channel broadcast the service live.

Prayers were lifted up for the repose of the soul of the Metropolitan Nikodim of everlasting memory.

After the liturgy His Holiness addressed himself to the congregation with a primatial homily, after which he celebrated the Requiem Office for the Dead.

Then the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church led a procession to the Laura’s Nikolskoe Cemetery in which Metropolitan Nikodim is buried. His Holiness laid a wreath at his grave and said a lity for the repose of Metropolitan Nikodim’s soul.
