On 15 July 2018, on their way from the Convent of St. Elizabeth in Alapayevsk, Sverdlovsk Region, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the permanent members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, accompanied by Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye and Bishop Mefody of Kamensk-Uralsky and Alapayevsk, visited the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Alapayevsk.

In the Sobornaya Square, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill came to the Monument of the Venerable Martyr Elizabeth (Romanova) and then proceeded to the cathedral.

Meeting the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church at the cathedral’s gates were Archpriest Maxim Dudarenko, sacristan of the church, and the local clergy.

Addressing all those present, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said, in particular:

“May, by the prayers of the holy new martyrs of Alapayevsk, confessors of the Russian Church and the holy Royal passion-bearers, the Lord preserve our homeland and help each of us ascend to heaven. No matter how hard it might be, we must remember that the road leading to heaven is the road towards God, towards the fullness of human life. And the fall into the abyss is indeed the fall into the abyss. May the Lord save us by the prayers of the holy Royal passion-bearers and new martyrs of our Church.”

The Primate of the Russian Church presented the cathedral with an icon of the Hieromartyr Hermogenes, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. The parishioners received icons of the Saviour Not-Made-By-Hand with the Patriarchal blessing.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and the members of the Holy Synod visited a crypt behind the cathedral’s sanctuary – the place where the Venerable Martyr Elizabeth and those who died with her were initially buried.
