On 18 May 2018, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), made a working visit to Romania with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

The DECR chairman met with Metropolitan Nifon of Tärgovişte, patriarchal representative responsible for international affairs. They were joined at the meeting, which took place in Bucharest, by Archpriest Michael Tita, patriarchal adviser for international affairs; Rev. Eugen Rogoti, interpreter; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations; and Alexander Yershov, personal assistant to the DECR chairman.

After the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion and his suite were received by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania at his residence.

Various issues pertaining to bilateral cooperation, pan-Orthodox agenda and inter-confessional relations were discussed.

That same day Metropolitan Hilarion met with H.E. Valery Kuzmin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Romania.
