Celebrations marking 10th anniversary of Archbishop Hilarion’s election as the sixth First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad take place in New York
On 29 April 2018, the Fourth Sunday after Pascha, the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of election of Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand as the sixth First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia were held in New York.
That day Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign Icon of the Mother of God, Patriarchia.ru reports, citing ROCOR’s official website.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were members of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia: Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Bishop Irenei of Sacramento, as well the sacristan of the cathedral, Archpriest Andrei Sommer, local clerics and ordained guests.
Among those who attended the service were Mr. Sergei Ovsyannikov, Russia’s Consul General in New York, and staff members of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.
During the Liturgy, prayers were said to commemorate the Russian Emperor Alexander III on the 200th anniversary of his birth.
After the service, Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Vice President of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops, greeted Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America on behalf of the plenitude of the Russian Church Abroad and presented the First Hierarch with a panagia.
Later a reception was held in the Synodal residence.
