On 2 November 2017, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with H.E. Petros Tseggai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Eritrea to the Russian Federation.

They were joined in the meeting, which took place at the DECR premises, by hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-C Christian relations, and Deacon Andrei Titutshkin, a staff member of the DECR secretariat for far abroad countries.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly greeted the head of the Eritrean diplomatic mission at the Synodal department in charge of external relations of the Russian Orthodox Church. Ambassador of Eritrea thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the opportunity to meet with him.

Discussed were matters of mutual interest, including the situation of the church in the State of Erithrea.
