Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, sent his condolences to Bishop Nestor of Korsun, clergy and laity of the Korsun diocese, and the near and dear of the late Archpriest Nicholas Lossky. The text is given below.

Your Grace, all-honourable fathers, brothers and sisters:

Please accept my profound condolences over the demise of Archpriest Nicholas Vladimirovich Lossky, a cleric of the parish of the “Joy to All the Afflicted” icon of the Mother of God and St. Geneviève in Paris.

The Lord had granted me a happy opportunity of personal acquaintance with Fr Nicholas. He was a man of many talents: theologian, philologist, musician, teacher and preacher of the word of God. All these God-given talents he increased greatly by his work during many years having dedicated them to the service to the Orthodox Church.

In all his successful and fruitful work for the good of the Church of Christ he was “a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth” (2 Tim 2:15).

In spite of his declining years and serious illness Archpriest Nicholas attended all church services partaking the Holy Mysteries of Christ up to the last days of his life.

I pray to the Lord Jesus Christ to rest the soul of His newly departed servant in the mansions of the righteous.

Memory good and eternal to him!

With love in the Lord,

+ Hilarion
