His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sent to His Holiness Patriarch Tawadros II of the Coptic Church a letter expressing condolences over the terrorists’ attack in the city of El-Minya in southern Egypt in which numerous pilgrims were killed on their way to the old Monastery of St. Samuel.

His Holiness TAWADROS II

Pope of Alexandria and

Patriarch of the See of St. Mark in All Africa and the Middle East

Your Holiness

Beloved in the Lord Brother:

With deep sorrow I have learnt about the new terror attack committed against Egyptian Christians.

Innocent people including children who were going to work and pray in one of the old monasteries were subjected to a mean attack. In their persons the Coptic Church has found new martyrs.

The report about the faithful of your Church reached you as you have returned from Moscow where we had so memorable a joy of fellowship. In this connection I would like once again to confirm what we said during the meeting: the world community should work out a joint policy of opposing terrorism, while religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim, should do everything for opposing the extremist ideology.

Please, accept my most sincere condolences over the tragedy and convey my words of heartfelt consolation to relatives of the victims and to all the Egyptian people, who, I believe, will not allow any forces to shake peace and harmony in the county.

With love in the Lord,

 + KIRILL

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
