On 20 March 2017, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, rector of Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute of Postgraduate Studies, presided over a meeting of the Institute’s Chair of Pedagogy and Theory of Education that works in St. Petersburg at the Russian Christian Academy of the Humanities.

Taking part in the meeting were Hieromonk Ioann (Kopeykin), vice-rector for education of Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute; Prof. Dmitry Shmonin, acting vice-rector for academic work of Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute, head of the Chair of Pedagogy and Theory of Education; and the faculty of the Chair of Pedagogy and Theory of Education: Archpriest Vladimir Khulap, Archpriest Grigory Grigoriev; Archpriest Oleg Skomorokh, Hieromonk Kirill (Zinkovsky), Hieromonk Mefody (Zinkovsky), Rev. Igor Lysenko, Rev. Jose Maria Vegas, Ms Galina Vdovina, and Mr. Alexander Prilutsky.

In his opening address, Metropolitan Hilarion dwelt on the current state of theology in Russia and the prospects of its development, emphasizing the importance of improving the quality of theses in theology that are to be submitted for defense both at the secular and the Church’s dissertation councils.

After the meeting the DECR chairman spoke to the first-year Master’s students, wishing them success in their studies.

Later that day the rector of Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute met with Prof. Dmitry Bogatyrev, rector of the Russian Christian Academy of the Humanities, to discuss some aspects and prospects of cooperation between the two educational institutions.
