Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, sent the following greeting to the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Poland, His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland:

Your Beatitude:

Please accept my cordial greetings with your Nameday.

The intercession of St. Sawa of Serbia whose name you received when you became a monk helps Your Beatitude to work fruitfully in the vineyard of the Holy Orthodox Church of Poland during many decades.

Having gained a rich spiritual experience and many virtues you “set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim 4:12) and encourage your spiritual children to keep the commandments of the Gospel, provoking them “to love and good deeds” (Heb 10:24).

You always care for the strengthening of brotherly relations with the Russian Orthodox Church and have visited Moscow on many occasions, including the celebration of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia and of the 70th birthday of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, sharing our joy.

On this solemn day I join the ardent prayers being offered by the faithful of the Orthodox Church of Poland for peace, good health and God’s aid for many good years of the primatial ministry of Your Beatitude.

With reverential love in the Lord,

+Hilarion

Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
