His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sent the following letter to His Holiness Mar Ignatios Aphrem II, Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, on the occasion of the terrorist attack at Al-Qamishli in Syria.

Patriarch of Antioch and All the East

Your Holiness:

I was saddened by the grave news of the terrorist attack targeting on You during Your visit to Al-Qamishli.

No slogans and no ideas can justify the acts of violence. The military confrontation in Syria has claimed thousands human lives, yet I am confident that peace and brotherly kindness will prevail in the much suffering land because terrorism has no future.

I ask You to convey my sincere condolences to the nearest and dearest of the victims of the attack at Al-Quamishli. I thank God that He has kept You unharmed and I pray for the recovery of the injured in the atrocity.

May the Lord grant You strength in Your ministry which You are fulfilling zealously and courageously and with willingness to lay down Your life for the flock entrusted to Your care.

With love in Christ,

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
