On May 3-4, 2016, the Chinese Orthodox faithful, who have been invited by His Holiness Patriarchal Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to come to Russia, visited churches and monasteries in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

On May 3, the pilgrims, descendants of the Chinese Orthodox clergy and Chinese Orthodox young people from Beijing and Harbin, attended the Easter service celebrated in Chinese at the church of St. Nicholas, the Chinese Patriarchal metochion at Golutvino. They also visited the St. Daniel Monastery in Moscow.

On May 4, the guests visited the St. Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity and the Khotkovo Convent of the Protecting Veil. They venerated the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Abbot of the Russian Land, and those of his parents, Ss Cyril and Mary. They were also introduced to the history of monasteries and taken on a tour of the Moscow Theological Academy’s museum of church archeology.

On May 5, the guests will leave Moscow for a pilgrimage to Tver, Veliky Novgorod and St. Petersburg. They will also visit the Valamo Monastery of Our Lady of Iveron. The pilgrims are accompanied by D. Petrovsky, a staff member of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations (DECR).
