On March 17, 2016, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk met with the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Ivan Jurkovic who is completing his diplomatic mission in the Russian Federation due to his assignment as Permanent Observer of the Holy See in the UN structures in Geneva and the WTO.

Metropolitan Hilarion congratulated the archbishop upon his new appointment and thanked him for constructive cooperation, expressing hope that it will be continued, considering the priority importance that both Russia and the Holy See give to the United Nations Organization in the system of international relations.

On his part, the guest spoke with profound appreciation and warmth about the time of his service in the Russian Federation, which became one of the most important missions in his church diplomatic ministry. Archbishop Jurkovic said that the Russian Orthodox Church, Russia and her culture became very dear to his heart since the day when in February 1992 he came to Moscow for the first time as adviser to the Holy See representation in the Russian Federation.

Participating in the meeting were also Msgr. Andrzej Józwowicz, Apostolic Nunciature adviser, Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and the Rev. Alexiy Dikarev, secretariat for inter-Christian relations.
