On 15 December 2014, Metropolitan Antony of Borispol and Brovary, Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, met with representatives of the World Council of Churches at the Kiev Laura of the Caves.
Representing the World Council of Churches at the meeting were archpriest Dr. Daniil Buda, executive secretary of the WCC commission for interchurch cooperation (Romanian Orthodox Church), and archpriest Mikhail Gundyaev, representative of the Russian Orthodox Church at the World Council of Churches. Among the participants in the meeting were also archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, deputy head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and staff members of the Department, Mr. D. Lozinsky and Mr. S. Bortnik.
The guests arrived in Ukraine in order to survey the current situation in the country and discuss a possible role of the World Council of Churches in settling an armed confrontation in the country, the Press Service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
Metropolitan Antony told the guest about the situation in Ukraine, voiced the position of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and told them about the aid the Ukrainian Church has been rendering to those affected by the armed conflict and refugees.
The guests noted that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was the only Church in Ukraine, whose representatives take part in the work of the WCC, and that the experience of the World Council of Churches in contributing to the settlement of conflicts in the world could prove helpful in Ukraine.
During their visit to Ukraine, the representatives of the World Council of Churches will meet with reprsentatives of various local confessions and religious communities.
