On September 26, 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Russia, Mr. Boiko Kocev, at the DECR.

Metropolitan Hilarion welcomed the Bulgarian diplomat, noting traditionally good relations between the peoples of Russia and Bulgaria and between the Russian and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches.

Mr. Kocev conveyed to the DECR chairman best regards from His Holiness Patriarch Neophyte of Bulgaria. He noted that the cooperation between the two Churches makes an important contribution to the development of Russian-Bulgarian relations.

Among the topics discussed was the development of students’ exchanges. Metropolitan Hilarion informed his guest about the experience of Bulgarian students training in the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies.

They also discussed the development of pilgrimage to holy places in Russia and Bulgaria and a number of other matters of mutual concern.
