On 18th January 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, currently on a working visit to Mexico, met with compatriots who reside in the country. Attending the meeting, which took place at the Cultural Centre of the National University of Mexico, was Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA. Mr. I. Fyodorov, Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Mexico, led the meeting.

Metropolitan Hilarion told the audience about the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 20th century, its situation at present, foreign relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, and answered many questions.

That same day, the DECR chairman visited the Monastery of the Holy Trinity of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, where he prayed at All-Night Vigil. After the divine service, he was greeted by Archbishop Cyril of San Francisco and Western America, who arrived in the capital of Mexico to pray together with the delegation of the Moscow Patriarchate on the Epiphany.  He noted the importance of Metropolitan Hilarion’s visit and congratulated him on receiving the high award – the Order of the Legion of Honour.

Metropolitan Hilarion delivered an archpastoral homily, which he concluded by wishing the monastery success and God’s help.

In the evening, Russian Ambassador to Mexico, H.T. Eduard Malayan gave dinner in honour of the DECR chairman and his suite.
