Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk meets with Patriarchate of Antioch’s hierarchs serving in Latin America
On January 16, 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, while on a working visit to Mexico, met with the Orthodox Church of Antioch’s hierarchs serving in Latin American countries.
Among those who participated in the meeting were Metropolitan Anthony of Mexico, Central America, Venezuela and the Caribbean Islands, Metropolitan Sergius of Santiago and Chile, Metropolitan Damaskinos of San Paulo and Brazil, Bishop Ignatius of Caesarea, vicar of the Metropolis of Mexico, Bishop Romanus of Edessa, vicar of the Metropolis of Brazil. Present at the meeting was also Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA.
In the course of a fraternal talk, they discussed topical issues of inter-Orthodox dialogue, cooperation between various Orthodox jurisdictions in Latin America and preparations for a Pan-Orthodox Council. Special attention was given to the situation of Christians in the Middle East.
