On 8 November 2013, Metropolitan Hilarion met with the Governor of the island of Corfu, Christos Skourtis. They were joined in the meeting, which took place at the Department for External Church Relations, by hieromonk Roman (Kiselev), a staff member of the DECR secretariat for far abroad countries, and the persons who accompanied the Governor.

Metropolitan Hilarion mentioned special relations between Russia and the island of Corfu and expressed his hope for the development of relations between Russia and the Ionian islands.

Governor Skourtis thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the meeting and expressed his interest in the development of contacts with the Department for External Church Relations and in the growth of the number of pilgrims arriving from Russia to venerate the island’s holy sites.

Participants in the meeting discussed various issues of mutual interest.
