On July 3, 2013, Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), a vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met at the DECR with a delegation of the Catholic Church in Hungary who came to Moscow at the invitation of the Peace and Peacemakers Association.

Participating in the meeting were Auxiliary Bishop Janos Zsekely of the Archdiocese of Esztergom, Rev. Eled Komaromi, Fr. Janos Tokar and Fr. Ferenc Hidasz.

In the beginning of the meeting, Archimandrite Philaret warmly welcomed the guests on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and briefly introduced them to the work of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations. Bishop Janos Zsekely, on his part, conveyed greetings from Cardinal Peter Erdo, Archbishop of Esztergom and Budapest and Primate of Hungary, who wished, during a personal meeting with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill in the future, to extend to him an invitation to visit Hungary.

The talk concerned topical issues of Orthodox-Catholic cooperation in Europe, especially, in the field of education and culture. Among questions discussed was a possibility for perpetuating the memory of Russians killed in action during World War I in Hungary.

In conclusion, the sides exchanged tokens of the meeting.

Participating in the meetings were also Archpriest Dimitry Sizonenko, DECR secretary for the far-abroad countries, and A. Vishnevsky of the DECR secretariat for inter-Christian relations.
