General Secretary of the World Council of Churches expresses solidarity with Russian Orthodox Church regarding the insults to religious sentiments
On 22 November 2012, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, DECR chairman, received a letter from Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, in which he, on behalf of the Council, expressed solidarity with the Russian Orthodox Church regarding the insults to religious sentiments and increased cases of sacrilege.
“We, as Christians and churches, together with representatives of other religious communities, are compelled to join our efforts in order to call for respect of our faith, the letter says in particular, – [The] principles of freedom are most authentic when they lead to justice, peace and harmony among members of a society. Please be assured of the prayers of the global fellowship for You, your Church and society.”
