On July 1, 2012, the fourth Sunday after Pentecost, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Great Consecration of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Bryansk and the Divine Liturgy in this newly-consecrated cathedral. His Holiness Kirill was assisted by a great assembly of bishops and priests.

During the liturgy, Archimandrite Nikon (Fomin) was consecrated as Bishop of Shuya and Teikovo (Ivanovo Region).

Present at the service were Bryansk Governor N. Denin and Ms. Denin, Bryansk Duma Speaker V. Gaidukov, Chief Federal Inspector for the Bryansk Region N. Burbyga, Bryansk Mayor A. Kovalev, and other regional and municipal officials.

The service was broadcast by the local TV network and shown on screens installed in the cathedral square.

Greeting Patriarch Kirill, Bishop Alexander of Bryansk spoke about the construction of the cathedral and presented His Holiness with an icon of the Holy Trinity. The cathedral compound includes a church of the Resurrection, which used to be the cathedral in the Soviet time, a Cathedral of the Trinity, a belfry of Martyr Alexander Peresvet and a church of Bryansk’s New Martyrs and Confessors.

Addressing the congregation, His Holiness Kirill said in particular, ‘I am especially grateful to you, Bishop Alexander. You have completed the construction of this church. You have come to rule the Bryansk diocese only recently but your soul feels kinship with this place, these people, these shrines, and I am confident that you will use all your resources, education, knowledge and experience to promote the spiritual development of the flock entrusted to your care’.

Patriarch Kirill awarded Bishop Alexander the Order of St. Daniel in recognition of his work to build the cathedral and presented him with a commemorative pectoral icon.

In recognition of their assistance in building the Cathedral of the Life-Giving Trinity, Bryansk Governor N. Denin was awarded the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh and Mr. V. Milovanov, general director of the VNIPIgazdobycha public corporation, the Order of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Several benefactors were awarded Medals of St. Daniel of Moscow and Patriarchal Letter of Commendation.

Every worshipper received a little icon of the Holy Trinity with Patriarchal blessing.
