On August 3, 2010, the second anniversary of the death of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the abbot of the Donskoy Monastery in Moscow, Bishop Kirill of Pavlov Posad, assisted by the monastic community, said the Office of the Dead at the writer’s grave. Archpriest Nikolay Chernyshev, a friend of the Solzhenitsyn family, participated, the Donskoy Monastery press service has reported.

Among those who came to honour the memory of Solzhenitsyn were Russian Trade Chamber chairman Ye. Primakov, DECR vice-chairman Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, as well as many public figures and governmental officials.

Before the service, Bishop Kirill blessed the new stone cross erected at Solzhenitsyn’s grave.
