On 18 June 2010, an enlarged conference of rectors of the theological schools of the Russian Orthodox Church took place at the Moscow Theological Academy. The conference was held in compliance with the order of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to develop the Russian Orthodox Church’s concept of religious education. Participants in the conference discussed the improvement of the system of spiritual education, an order of conferring academic degrees and titles, and information projects of the Education Committee.

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations and rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Church Postgraduate and Doctoral School, presented a report and took part in discussing the “Transformation of the System of Religious Education” project presented by the first deputy chairman of the Education Committee, archimandrite Kirill (Govorun).
