With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine, an international conference on the Patriarchal Visit to Ukraine: Responding to Challenges of Time will take place on 19-20 November 2009 in Kiev. Among its participants are hierarchs, priests, pubic leaders and scholars from Ukraine, Russia and other countries.

The conference will be preceded by a prayer service at the Kiev Monastery of the Caves. During the first day the conference will work in plenary sessions and sections. A documentary on the Patriarchal visit to Ukraine will be shown.

It is planned to hold sections on ‘The unity of the Church – the unity of the people’, ‘Today’s’ social service of the Orthodox Church’, ‘Church-state relations in post-totalitarian countries’, and ‘The Church and information technologies’.

On November 20, the conference will continue its work in issue sections. The closing plenary session will take place in the afternoon.

The public will have an opportunity to see a photo-exposition ‘His Holiness Patriarch Kirill in Ukraine’. There will also be presentations of documentaries and publications devoted to that event, including a book entitled ‘A Patriarch of Unity’, which is a collection of talks, sermons and homilies Patriarch Kirill delivered during his visit to Ukraine. In addition, there will be a presentation of a full collection of Nikolay Gogol’s works and the book on church-state relations in Ukraine, entitled ‘In Leviathan’s Circles’.

In the evening of November 20, several Ukrainian TV networks will broadcast live talks with participants in the conference.
