The fourth edition of the book “St. Simeon the New Theologian and Orthodox Tradition” by Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk came out in the series ‘The Library of Christian Thought. Studies.”

This is the translation of the PhD thesis defended by the author at the Faculty of Theology, University of Oxford. He has researched the attitude of St. Simeon to the Holy Scriptures, Orthodox liturgy, the Studion monastic tradition, and hagiographical, theological, ascetic and mystic literature.

The main theme of the present edition is the connection between personal spiritual experience of Christians and the Tradition of the Church. The teaching of the great theologian, poet and mystic of the eleventh century is considered in the context of the variety of Tradition of the Eastern Church. Particular attention has been paid to the personality and teaching of Simeon of the Studion, a spiritual father of St. Simeon the New Theologian.
