The Supervisory, Patrons and Public Boards for the publishing of Orthodox Encyclopedia met on 5 November 2009 at the Church of Christ the Saviour. The meeting was cochaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, State Duma Speaker B. Gryzlov and Moscow Mayor Yu. Luzhkov and attended by bishops, heads of Synodal departments, federal ministries officials, State Duma deputies, cultural figures, scholars and educators, and representatives of the business community.

After the Orthodox Encyclopedia Church Research director, S. Rravets, made a report, Patriarch Kirill spoke about the 2010 work plan to publish further volumes of the encyclopedia, to issue it in a public e-format and to continue working on television and cinema projects, the Sedmitsa web-site and the journal on church history. Speaking about the work carried out last year, His Holiness made a special mention of the film on the Pskov Mission during the Great Patriotic War, which will be showing under the title ‘Parson’.

Minister of Culture A. Fursenko spoke about his ministry’s plans for continuing cooperation with the Orthodox Encyclopedia Center.

The participants adopted the Center’s work plans for 2010. In his closing remarks, Patriarch Kirill supported the proposal made by Mayor Luzhkov to intensify the work on the Encyclopedia’s new volumes.

After this working session, there was a presentation of Orthodox Encyclopedia Volumes XX and XXI.
