The Churches in Europe section of the Russian-German forum St. Petersburg Dialogue held a working session on 6 October 2009 at the Holy Spirit Center of St. Alexander Nevsky’s Monastery of the Holy Trinity. Participating in the session from the Russian side were Hieromonk Philip (Riabykh), DECR vice-chairman, Ms. O. Tserpitskaya, deputy dean for research, St. Petersburg University department of international relations, and Mr. V. Matiyashin, DECR. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Catholic and the Evangelical Churches in Germany.

Proposals were voiced concerning prospects for developing the work of the forum’s section on Churches in Europe and the forum as a whole. Under a separate agenda item, the session considered possible themes for St. Petersburg Dialogue to take place in 2010 in Russia.

The forum was founded in 2001 as a dialogue platform for developing bilateral relations between Russia and Germany. It is patronized by the President of Russia and the Federal Chancellor of Germany. Its Churches in Europe section deals with the participation of Christian Churches in the life of the European society and the spiritual and ethical dimension of problems facing humanity today.
