His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia laid flowers at the Victory Memorial in Minsk, on 26 September 2009. He was accompanied by Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch for All Belarus, and other bishops and priests.

His Holiness and his delegation were welcomed at Victory Square by Minsk Acting Mayor N. Ladutko. After laying the flowers, Patriarch Kirill lifted up a prayer for the rest of the souls of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War. The bishops and priest sang ‘Eternal Memory’ to them.

The Victory Memorial was erected on 4 July 1954 to honour the Soviet Army soldiers and Byelorussian partisans who were killed during the Great Patriotic War. The monument has become one of the symbols of the Byelorussian capital city.
