International conference on The Gospel of St. Mark: Historical and Theological Context completed its work at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies
From September 23-26, 2019, the 2nd International Conference of New Testament researchers devoted to the Gospel of St. Mark was held at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies (CMI).
For four days, leading biblical scholars from Russia, Europe and America discussed the findings of over fifteen studies on the historical and theological context of the Gospel of St. Mark.
On September 25, the participants in the conference visited the Novospassky Monastery for a familiarization tour as part of the cultural program.
On September 26, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) and the CMI rector, read a paper at the conference. In his introductory remarks, he spoke about the importance of the Gospel of St. Mark for the Orthodox tradition.
The conference completed its work on September 27, the Day of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. The guests attended the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Metropolitan Hilarion at the church of Our Lady the Joy to All the Afflicted-in-Bolshaya Ordynka.
After the service, they were invited for a festive repast during which they summed up the conference.
The conference was conducted by the CMI in cooperation with the Eastern European Liaison Committee (EELC)’s Society of New Testament Scholars (SNTS) and with the support of the Kirche in Not and Business & Education as Mission foundations.
