DECR chairman’s condolences over attack on the Coptic church of St. Mina in Cairo
Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk called the attack a dastard and cynical crime. As a result of the attack, nine people were killed and several more people were wounded. The message of condolences sent by the DECR chairman to Coptic Patriarch Tawadros II reads:
Your Holiness,
Kindly accept my sincere condolences over the attack carried out by militants on the Coptic Church of St. Mina in Cairo – a dastard and cynical crime that has taken away nine human lives and inflicted wounds on five more Christians.
Addressing again an appeal to the whole world community to close ranks against terrorism, let us remember that its adherents have and can have no future, for every evil devours itself. The truth of God incessantly testifies that he that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword (Rev. 13:10).
I lift up prayers to the Lord that He may grant eternal repose to the souls of the victims and consolation and fortitude to their relatives and loved ones in their bereavement.
With love in the Lord and profound condolences,
+ Hilarion
Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
