On 16 November 2017, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, while in Morocco with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, visited the Russian Embassy school in Rabat. The DECR chairman arrived in the capital of Morocco to take part in a round table meeting on Russian Orthodox Church and Compatriots: Experience of Cooperation in Africa and Southwest Asia.

The Russian hierarch was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Valery Vorobyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Morocco; Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), DECR vice-chairman; Archpriest Maxim Massalitin, rector of the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Rabat; and Mr. Alexander  Yershov, assistant to the DECR chairman.

Metropolitan Hilarion was told about the school’s educational activities, at the request of teachers and pupils’ parents blessed classrooms, and had a meeting with the teachers and schoolchildren.

The DECR chairman presented the school with the Catechesis of the Russian Orthodox Church and called upon the teachers and pupils to study their native religious tradition based on the Orthodox heritage.
