On 5 October 2017, a meeting between Hegumen Arseniy (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and H.E. Mr. Riyad Haddad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation, took place at the Syrian Embassy in Moscow.

During the meeting, Fr. Arseniy told the Syrian Ambassador about the history and current activities of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Representation to the Patriarchal Throne of Antioch.

The participants in the meeting discussed the situation in Syria and prospects of relocating the Representation of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia from Beirut back to Damascus.

Among those in attendance were also Ms Nelli Kuskova, PhD, a member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, and staff members of the Syrian Embassy.
