DECR chairman meets with Argentine’s ambassador to Russia

August 21, 2017 – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Russia, Mr. Ricardo E. Lagorio, at the DECR. Present at the audience was Deacon Andrey Titushkin, DECR secretary for the far abroad.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed the head of the Argentinian diplomatic mission to the synodal department responsible for the external contacts of the Russian Church.

The hierarch told the high-ranking diplomat about the past and present of Russian Orthodoxy in Argentina, the stand taken by the Russian Orthodox Church on a number of pressing problems of today, and the interreligious dialogue in Russia.

Among the focuses of the talk was the problem of the terrorist threat spreading in the world. The sides agreed that to prevent the expansion of the extremist ideology it is necessary to raise the level of people’s religious literacy.
